Alexis Dennis graduated in 2011 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and Duke University, where she was dually enrolled as a Robertson Scholar. She earned her BA in Communication Studies and completed a minor in African American Studies. She also earned a Certificate in Documentary Studies at Duke University's Center for Documentary Studies (CDS) where she studied black and white film photography, digital color photography, and oral history. Alexis earned her Master of Public Health degree in Health Behavior from UNC in 2014. Currently, Alexis is a PhD student at UNC in the Department of Sociology, where she studies racial and socioeconomic disparities in mental health across the early life course. In her spare time, Alexis enjoys travel, photography, spending time with friends and family, gym classes, and cooking.
